#1 in New York for MDA Fill-The Boot
Greenburgh Firefighters are proud to announce we are the Muscular Dystrophy Association's Top Fundraising Firefighters' Local of 2017 for New York and have earned the Golden Boot Award. We raised $26,468 through Fill-the-Boot, our golf outing & fund drives. The Golden Boot Award is very special to us.
On April 14th 2017 we lost our recently retired brother Bert "Bubba" Mentrasti due to 9/11 related illness. Bert dedicated his life to the MDA and directly impacted the lives of many children and families living with this disease. It had always been his goal to obtain the Golden Boot Award for being the Top Fundraising Firefighters' Local in New York.
After we lost Bert, we made it our mission to be #1 in NYS. Unfortunately, Bert did not live to see his goal succeed, but we honor him in the best way possible by keeping his legacy of charity and dedication to the MDA alive. Bert stopped at nothing whether it was filling a MDA family's car with groceries, visiting the MDA camp every summer, or raising money for MDA families in need, Bert was there.
We were honored to be selected as the Local to kick off the 2017 Fill-the-Boot season, we set out then to be #1 in the state, and we kept to our word.
